DIY HACK FOR EPOXY FINISHING LURES, FLIES AND ASSIST HOOKS
Here's a good way to make perfect epoxy finishes on flies, lures, flies and assist hooks - this is also quite inexpensive...and you can do a lot of stuff with it.
I will modify this down the line and will show you guys of course. Links below.
Can use this with UV resin as well to distribute the epoxy around the lure or fly or assist hooks evenly before you nuke it with the UV light. This makes the finish coat the object cleaner, more even and consistent each and every single time.

RIGGING LURES FOR A TRIP - HANG OUT VIDEO
Indeed, there is a tool that only does the job, and there is a tool that does the job perfectly, but this one not for me. i fish from shore thanks master
Good job man i like DIY too, and I make anything my home needs, also all maintenance work it's a hobby for me. I have a room full of equipment you can't imagine😂 By the way, these are nice knives it's only for professionals 👌
What's the diameter of the wire? And where did you get them? And Soft or hard?
the one I am using in the video is a #10 I think. I don't know what the diameter is, but it's #10wire.
Yes, I saw this trip. The temperature was high and the water was still, without air or current, as well as algae But it was still a good trip that I enjoyed and learned from
What's the diameter of the wire? And where did you get them? And Soft or hard?)
what wire?
Every angler needs to understand how to treat his gear especially the rod. Good topic as always, please do more of this. Thank you master
Is it better to have the line connected to the split ring or eye of the jig directly . I was told better connect to split ring as it improves hookup rates,Is that true?
for slow jigs, its a separate solid ring connected to the split ring, then another solid ring that connects to the assist cord and hooks. Whoever told you to tie directly on the eye of the jig or the split ring does not know anything...no matter how much of an expert he says he is...nothing that comes out of his mouth should be followed when it comes to jigging.
Say, if i lay the assist line on the hook shank without making a knot around it or letting it pass through the hook and then i fix the thread, will it slip you think?
depends on how you tie it - and if you used glue or not. best way is to do a pull test until it breaks.
I used the same assist line ss Gou40 , and the same gamakatsu hooks! They are crazy sharp super fast penetration :)
:)
Good work as usual In this one, you're puted the stoper knots a far away, and you didn't stop with the hook point like you're usually do and you tell me earlier that's because don't make a gap in fish meat and I know you aren't a random guy so why you did that in this particular one master
you can do the same, but this isn't a jig...the dynamics is slightly different.
@TheFishingKit I got it, thanks You always answer, I appreciate that
You summed up everything that can be said with the Ferrari example Good point master 👌👍
:)
I just bought one of these jigs when I was visiting Guam but I generally fish for big bluefin tuna in California. I was thinking it would be a good option for a heavy jig that isn’t too long for the night bite. Generally we fish speed jigs that are in the 250-500g range but many of those are long and I feel like even with the correct hook setup cause missed hookups so I thought this might work well. How do you fish it generally? The guys lately have even been just putting assist hooks on 16 oz wire through sinkers and getting a better hookup ratio because they get down to 500 ft quickly and have and have a small profile for less misses but they have little to no action so I’m hoping this will be an improvement to that.
If you want to get down fast without thinking of anything - you use a fast jig. Slow jigs require you to put a bit of thumb pressure on the spool to keep the jig's position vertical so it goes down faster - otherwise, if it senses slack on the line, it will flutter - this is the design of slow jigs. This is also the reason why you can not use spinning gear for slow jigging - you can not put pressure on the line enough to make the jig go vertical. The jigs that get down fast are also the SLIM jigs, not the short fat, wide ones. I know a lot of people just reel the jigs and not really work it properly....the use of sinkers, jigs not being worked properly, even upside down jigs...i've seen it all done and they catch fish...500 ft is actually quite shallow and there is no need for 500g jigs in that depth. If you want to increase your hook up ratio and catch more, this is probably something that needs to be looked at first and not go with the crowd that thinks they are doing it right....they certainly are not.
@@TheFishingKit what are some jigs you’d recommend for getting down fast that might not be as heavy? I’ve had a hard time with anything lighter than 300 grams because the current is usually ripping pretty hard in the tuna grounds so it’s hard to keep a jig vertical without it scoping out and the schools move so fast that they’re gone if you don’t get your jig down first drop generally. I fish on larger party boats so they aren’t super fast to keep up with the schools and we generally are fishing at night too if you think color matters for that. I always keep a little pressure on the spool to keep the jig from fluttering too and use 100 ft metered braid behind my mono and floor bite leader so I generally know if I’m close to the zone depending on scope. Definitely open to suggestions, I like having different gear than the other guys, I feel like I get bit better that way. Also the jig has to be able to sink fast with heavy line as we’re generally fishing for tuna in the 100-250 lb range if that helps for suggestions
What line are you using?
@@TheFishingKit I generally keep 80-100 lb braid as my backing and then 50 yd of 80-100 lb mono for some stretch and then 200 lb floro bite leader
@@jjjohnst082988 ok, your mainline is 80-100lb. then you have a topshot, how long is your topshot and how long is your leader/flouro - what rod and reel are you using? Speed of the reel?
Thank you for the video
Thanks for watching!
Hola ! I'm Fabio from Ibiza, thanks for your videos . For tuna you don t use never a little octupus on the hook? What do you think? Thanks
No, it's better without because the skirt sometimes interferes with the hook
Circle hook no good, the fish get outs, I use the others hook is better 🐟🐟
Circle hooks are actually very good unless you don't use them correctly.
Sir parequest po how to tie spade hooks with eye for fast and slow jig. TIA🙏🏽
lots in the channel! check out the rigging videos.

Excellent work, and I feel it will work for me. I appreciate everything you do on the channel thanks master
Glad to hear
Ok, I am brand new to fishing ; you are a good honest teacher. Salt water is what I'm interested in, I live in Florida. This video as well as your others help a lot. I'm sure I'll find out later, but do you need a leader. Is the line your using too thin for one. Anyway thanks again for this, and all the hard work you put in.
Hi Carlo, this combo is very specialized. This is also a type of fishing that isn't common in the US. ruclips.net/video/cV0rgM2kiOc/видео.html <----<<< might be better for your needs.
Thank you for this, with your other 124 videos, I may become an x- pert with out leaving the house.😊
You wont be an expert, but at the very least, you will learn a few things that will help you out or at least shorten the learning curve by a bit....Either way, I hope you learn a few things you could use.
That’s great! Looking forward to seeing what happens! Thanks for looking in to this!🤙
I want to see them swim there as well. so I will be keeping my ears to the ground for this as well.
For 8kg split rings is there a specific size pliers please?
8kg isn't specialized, there are a lot that can do the job.
Thank you for the tips
Any time
You are always offering different things on your channel. Always full of useful ideas and advice, mentioning the details and why this or that, and this is what makes you the most distinguished from others. Thank you Mr.Kit

Great vid Kit Master! There’s also something very ‘Zen’ about the gentle art of Sabiki lure fishing and my favourite method of collecting baitfish before a session or just a thing and snap freezing for future use. Thanks for this one mate. And special thanks to your special childhood mentor for allowing you to hand the knowledge and technique down. I’ll be certainly making up a couple of these rigs in his honour! Best Regards as always Kit, Charles, Cairns.
Hey Charles! I would beef them up if you are going to use them there. I have tried this in a lot of places...just keeping things on the down load and actually had better results than commercial models.
Hi what is the color’s name of the green one you’re displaying ?
BSCD - Big Eye Scad I mentioned this on the video.
Thank you for your reply. Sorry, I missed you mentioning it . I asked because that color is not shown on Rapala’s website.

Thanks for replying. I guess the color is not available in the US just EU. Too bad.
@@ltanaka2142 Oh...You are in the US? would take some time before you guys would get this. The US is separate and is always late...or have their own line up.
I have a blue max with a flipping switch. I have no idea what gen it is like a 2 or 3 …what spool would I need? Thanks much appreciated.
I have no idea...unfortunately, I don't have a bluemax and nor have I handled one.
Hey mate. Loving the videos! The adajo, you seemed to rate it. They seem good for yhe price and s true slow pitch rod. If im fishing say 60-80 metres with fairly high current, would you siggest this for a good startjng point? I currently have two other rods and looking at a third to work in a heavier current situation. I currently have a pro hunter slow rider pe2.5 and a oceans legacy elementus slow in pe2. Typically I use about 130-180gram jigs but at times a vertical jig is difficult with the current we get here. Watcing your videos I'll need to get some smaller profile jigs and possibly a stronger rod. I currently run saltiga 12 in pe2.
It's a good budget option, it's not a true slow jigging rod - It's an Asian Style rod. I believe the adajo goes up to 500g I might be mistaken, but this was my work rod back in the day, so yes, it does the job.
@@TheFishingKit thanks for that! Will Watching to see what else I can discover Cheers

Good tutorial as always, thanks, Mr. Kit 🙏 You can put your accelerator solution in a small spray bottle for easy application to keep the spray away from the camera and the vise
I didn't have any when I made this, but ideally, yes, a small bottle would work better.
What lure is the pink one called
There are 3 pink lures in the vixeo - xxxrap, skitter v and the xplode
Thanks for the great tutorial.. just wondering how much should be the length of the leader between the fly and the qtip?

Kit whats the snap brand that you mentioned in previous vid thats welded snaps. All snaps in my area are non welded. Thanks!
I was given these by Momoi and Hots years ago...I don't know the brand unfortunately
@@TheFishingKit good to know. Thanks and keep it up!
Update: 5.8 gear ratio and even lighter for inshore jigging I been using now is the Daiwa Airity. 150g and it's just awesome. It's WAYY more expensive but really love the weight savings for all day jigging. I love the shallow spool too. I updated the handle to Titanium with ceramic bearings, and ceramic bearings for the spool bearing. Also changed the felt to Carbontex washer and I can and have landed everything inshore. 😊
$$$$$ but if you have the money...why not :D
@@TheFishingKit 🤣
Great break down? Question can I use a shimano Ocea jigger for bottom fishing??
Short answer - it depends, a OJ PG would be better than an HG or an XG, but sure...would be like using a sniper rifle to hunt with...but yes...you can :)
It's a good idea to keep a couple of these in my gear to use when there are toothy fish around, Like you said, it is better to have it than not. It is like an emergency plan Thank you master 👍
yup yup...there when you need it.
I usually will misplace the screw in bag. So what I will do is scotch tape the spare to the base.
That's a good idea...no need for this I think as I wouldn't be unscrewing them...
Nice, what is the weight of the spool (including drag ) for the L30, L50 and L80?
I have not weighed them separately from the reel actually.
Hey Kit, do you recommend a specific type of threading for tying assist hooks. or is it the same as the stuff used for flies, which there seems to be a variety on that too. seems like a good topic for a video if you haven't already done it. if you have already, can you point me in that direction. Thanks for all the knowledge Kit, you're making a big impact on the fishing community.
this question is answered a while lot because i get this almost every week - I use very thin fishing braid. There are specific threads being made for binding assist cords - I will put a link to this product as well. I use braid from my old ultralight Ajing gear - it is tougher than the threads made for binding assist hooks and i can really torque down on the bindings - making them cleaner, slimmer and more secure. Here's a link to the "proper" seki threads - amzn.to/3xhe2a4 Braid you can use for binding- amzn.to/4ccy7gJ choose PE 0.3
Very cool idea, I have something that I made from a grill rotisserie motor, but that unit looks like it will be really nice, because it already has everything needed to make the spinning resin leveling machine. Thanks for posting about this. I am going to grab one of those to try out for myself. :)
Go for it! :) already testing it out...worked perfectly!
This is my first time seeing this rigging type thanks master And why is it not igfa legal? is that because catch & Release rules?
not IGFA legal
